We also get to see 18th-century justice take place. At first, it’s normal to see her as just an outcast among the women in the 18th century, but as Claire gets to know her, we realize there’s likely something more to this woman something modern about this woman. Not only do we meet Geillis, but there’s also that sense that there’s something different about her. There is a lot happening during this chapter. It’s only during Outlander Book 1, Chapter 9 that we get to meet her. After all, Geillis is introduced much sooner on the TV series. And I’ll admit that watching the TV series first is part of the reason for my bad memory. That’s certainly the case when it comes to the introduction of Geillis Duncan. Events I thought happened earlier actually took place a few chapters later. That’s what I love about rereading the Outlander books. Sometimes, you think a scene happens much earlier than it really does. This is one of my favorite chapters of the book and one that I remember the most vividly at this point in the story.Outlander Season 1 - Courtesy of STARZ Geillis Duncan is introduced during Outlander Book 1, Chapter 9 I think it took about that amount of time.

As the other chapters in our Outlander Book Club, I’m separating this into three seasons.įor those who are wondering how long it would take to read the chapter, Audible says one hour and seven minutes. Let’s deep dive into the chapter of the book. And we only get to know the others as Dougal, Murtagh, and Rupert. Of course, we don’t get to know him as Jamie Fraser at first. I have always felt more of a bond develop on the show than in the books, except, of course, with Jamie Fraser. It’s a great way to introduce the Highlander who would eventually (sort of) become Claire’s friends. In fact, this is the first chapter up to this point that was used heavily for the series, and it makes sense.

It’s a chance to see just how much this chapter was transformed for the show. We’re heading into the third chapter of Outlander Book 1. Outlander - Photo by Frazer Harrison/Getty Images for Entertainment Weekly Taking a deep look at Outlander Book 1, Chapter 3
